Mick’s new album, The Wheel Keeps on Turning, was released with a memorable concert at Doncaster’s Ukrainian Centre on 1st December 2023. Having assembled and rehearsed an outstanding backing band, the new songs were given their first live outing to a rapturous audience. Mick prefaced each song with a little backstory on the lyrics, whose narratives deal with conflict, tales of rebellion, and Mick’s enduring love of his home city. His writing partner, the renowned poet Ian Parks, gave an impassioned and emotional speech, saying how much it meant to him to hear songs he had contributed come alive on the stage. With producer/percussionist Keith Angel on drums, Adrian Evans on Bass and harmonies, and long-standing collaborator Kev Fitzpatrick on guitars, harmonica and harmonies, the material took on a new dimension when delivered with the energy of a band at the top of their game, obviously relishing the event and the opportunity to share a stage with each other. The overriding mood of both band and audience at the end of the evening was “when are we doing this again!”
